Elimu+ SACCO
We are planning a savings and credit society for Elimu+ graduates and their communities, where members' savings are invested wisely so they can grow.
Our idea
Many Elimu+ graduates can work out their prices and profit, but have no safe place to save and no affordable credit to grow. When money arrives suddenly, many are unsure how to use it well. Elimu+ SACCO would bring together savings, small business loans, financial education and mentorship, so that money comes with know-how.
What we are planning
- Regular member savings, kept transparently.
- Small business-growth loans for graduates, with mentorship.
- Careful pooled investment of savings, with members able to see how it works.
- Regular financial education at the monthly Elimu+ forums.
- A link to the growth needs board in Biashara za Elimu+, so that help in kind and loans work together.
Where we are, honestly
This is still a plan. We are not accepting deposits, contributions or membership fees. A savings and credit society that takes members' savings in Kenya is regulated by law, and we will only begin once the necessary registration and approvals are in place. We promise no profit, interest or dividend until the plan is ready and approved.
Next steps
- Listening. We are talking with graduates and host organisations about what they need.
- Designing. We are drafting the structure, rules and money management, and confirming legal requirements with professionals.
- Registration and approvals. We complete every registration and approval before accepting any savings.
- Starting small. We begin with a small group of graduates and learn before we grow.
